The Carnegie Secret To Success

Filed under: Success Guideline — admin at 1:20 am on Friday, December 28, 2007

In his all time best selling book, Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill mentions in his first chapter that throughout the book he will be referring many times to The Carnegie Secret. He said he would not tell you what that secret is, but when you are ready, it will jump off the page and into your brain. He said, When the Student is ready - the master will appear. The doors will open. The lights will turn green. The ideas will come. The money will come. The people will be there to help you.

Since 1970 we have been teaching the principles of success that Andrew Carnegie commissioned Napoleon Hill to study and share with the world. Napoleon Hill spent his entire lifetime researching the most successful people of all times from around the world.

Many, many times in our classes, workshops, talks, rallies and in our Master Mind Alliance Success Club meetings we have asked this question to those in our audience who had read the book Think and Grow Rich,

What is The Carnegie Secret that Napoleon Hill referred to in his book?
We got all kinds of guesses and some answers that were somewhat close.

HERE IS ——- THE CARNEGIE SECRET

1. Have A Definite Major Purpose.

What is the most important thing you would like to accomplish in your lifetime? Try to define it in one paragraph, even if you have to keep rewriting it a hundred times until it gets as clear as possible. It has to be the most important thing in your life. Mahatma Gandhi’s definite major purpose was to win independence for India from their British rulers. He succeeded. Dr. Martin Luther King’s was equality and the end of oppression for black people. Doctor Jonas Salk’s was to find the cure and end for polio. Thomas Edison’s was the incandescent light bulb. What is yours?

If you don’t currently have what you feel is a definite major purpose, then have a definite major purpose to find your definite major purpose.

It has to be something you want so bad that you think about it all of the time.

2. Be Willing To Stake Your Entire Existence On Achieving It.

Don’t Quit. There Are Many Starters In Life, But Very Few Finishers - When The Going Gets Tough They Quit. A person with a definite major purpose never gives up - no matter how long and tough the road is; instead, they become more determined. Jack London was rejected over 600 times before he finally sold his first piece of writing. Thomas Edison actually failed over 9,999 times before he perfected the incandescent light bulb, and over 5,000 times before he perfected the world’s first phonograph record player. There will be times when everything in you will tell you to quit - to stop trying, but if you hang in there, eventually, you will - you must succeed. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

Persistence is the power to hold on in spite of everything - to endure. It’s the ability to face defeat repeatedly without giving upto push on even in the face of great difficulty or danger. Persistence means taking pains to overcome every obstacle, to do all that is necessary to reach your goals. You win, because you refuse to become discouraged by your defeats. Those who conquer are those who endure.

3. Keep Intensifying Your Desire.

There are many “firemen” in life that will come along and try to put your fire of desire out. They will give you all kinds of reasons why your idea or goal won’t work and tell you to give it up, forget it, or tell you “You can’t do it.” You have to become an Arsonist. An arsonist sets fires. Every morning when you wake up you have to re-light and re-build the intensity of your fire of desire. You have to eat it, sleep it, walk it, talk it, and concentrate on it until it becomes a red-hot flaming, burning, obsessional desire that will eventually mow down all of the opposition you will face throughout each day. If you don’t, your Sizzle of desire will fizzle down to nothing. I’m not suggesting that you stop talking to or seeing your family and friends - what I’m saying is to keep focused day and night, seven days a week. This will bring into play: THE LAW OF HARMONIOUS ATTRACTION. Your burning desire becomes a magnet. You will attract that which you need; the ideas and plans, the money you need, and the people you need to help you. They will eventually gravitate toward your desire.

4. Have Bulldog Determination And Perseverance That Will Eventually Mow Down All Opposition.

Expect lots of problems, adversities, and discouragement along the way. Go around it - go over it - go under it - or dig a hole through it - but don’t ever turn back. Make your Definite Major Purpose the dominating thought in your mind. It is a known fact that people who have had great achievement - formed the habit of making an “obsession” of their Definite Major Purpose. Andrew Carnegie said to put all of your eggs in one basket and then watch the basket. Andrew Carnegie’s definite major purpose, which he wrote down at an early age and kept in his desk, was to earn as much money as he can in life and then, in the end, to set up the Carnegie Foundation to give it all away to worthy causes. Even after his death long ago, the Carnegie Foundation is still giving away millions every year to help mankind.

I have been teaching The Science of Success Achievement Course since 1970. There were many times when I taught the course to as many as ten different groups per week. Some in major hotels, some in large corporate training rooms, in the YMCA, in hundreds of real estate and insurance offices, in prisons, rehab centers, and for many sales and marketing groups of people.

In all of my classes, (There were ten separate 4-hour classes to the course,) I always told my students at the end of the first class - “For your homework this week, I want you to read the first four chapters of Think And Grow Rich (I always had stacks of the book there to sell them.) As you read each page, write a list of all of the things the author is telling you to do and the things he is telling you not to do. Then, I want you to carry that list with you every day and keep reviewing your list and keep doing the things the author told you to do. And then come back to class #2 next week and tell the class about the list you made, what actions you took as a result of reading the book, and what results you got.”

At the beginning of the class on the following week I would always start out by asking - By a show of hands, how many of you read the first four chapters of Think And Grow Rich? About 2% would raise their hands. The rest didn’t take the time to read it. Then I would ask the 2% How many of you read the first four chapters and made the list I told you to make of all of the things the author told you to do? Usually about three hands went up. I asked each of them - How many items do you have on your list of the things the author told you to do? The first person said three. The second person said nine. The third person said - 90 items

I asked the person who had ninety on her list to come to the front of the classroom.

I said to the others - You people paid good money to take this course because you wanted to achieve greater success. How can you expect the results you hoped for if you aren’t willing to take notes and to put in practice what you are learning?

Then I had the lady read from her list of 90 items. And the class was surprised at how powerful and important the things on her list were.

I asked the class - How many of you are speed reader? All kinds of hands went up. Then I told them about an incident when I was at a party and someone asked me what I do for a living. I told him that I teach a course based around the book Think And Grow Rich. He said, “That’s a book that we teach from at our speed reading school.” Then I asked him, “What were the greatest lessons you learned from the book?” He tried to think and then said, “I don’t remember that book so well.” I later found out that he was a speed-reading instructor. I thought to myself - There’s a guy that can read 10,000 words a minute and remember nothing.

Think And Grow Rich is so powerful that it’s the kind of book you have to read very slowly and carefully, many times until it becomes a part of your life and habits. I have been reading the book every year since 1970. Each year I pull it back off the shelf and let it fire me up for the achievement of my new goals for the year.

The Success of Failure

Filed under: Success Guideline — admin at 1:36 am on Thursday, December 27, 2007

Failure is usually viewed in a negative connotation, causing one to feel worthless. If instead of self-pity after failure, you view it from another perspective, you can often turn failure into
success. When things don’t turn out the way they were planned, you can often discover what was first overlooked.

When writing an article, a book, or some other endeavor, genius often does not show up after the first try, or the second or even after several attempts. Failures are our training ground. We must permit them to be our schoolmasters, showing us the right way by
eliminating the wrong ways. Hindsight is always better than foresight, so why not learn from our mistakes and use them as stepping stones to our success?

Before submitting your brilliant paper, if you examine it with a critical eye, you can spot the flaws and correct them. It may only requires the changing of a few words to go from mediocre to exceptional. An added look at your work gives you the edge needed for success.

Races are won by fractions of an inch and milliseconds. The difference between batting two and three hundred is just a couple of hits. The team that wins may not be the most talented, but the one that plays the hardest and smartest. Diving after loose balls and jumping for an extra rebound often make the difference between winning and losing. Extra efforts put forth often pay big dividends. Home run hitters strike out more than others, but they keep swinging. Successful people use what they learn from their failures, to lead them to success.

A professional is one who considers them self professional and does not rest until he or she is professional. Perfection is achieved not only by practice and self examination, but by seeing success in the mind and having the confidence of winning. Write the paper or play the game in the mind over and over, imagining the obstacles and how you are going to overcome them. You can become more mentally alert in this way, having the confidence to
compete.

When you are stumped on how to proceed with something difficult, put it on the back burner of your mind and let it cook for a while. Sometimes the subconscious mind will reveal the solution when you are not even thinking about it. You will be surprised at how much clearer the way is, when you let your thoughts come to you naturally without browbeating.

When trying hard to finish a project you can draw a blank. Desperation often causes one to grab at straws, trying anything to see if it works. This gets away from rationality. You are
just spinning your wheels. When that happens, it is time to take a break. Go get a refreshing drink, and do something else for a while. You can get too, close to the problem to see the obvious. Getting away from it for a while will reset the mind so that you can see clearly.

The next time your project goes bottoms up, don’t have a pity party, examine it closely and look for the flaws. You may not have to trash everything and start over; it may just need a
little tweaking. Failure does not mean you have failed, it just means you need to keep trying. You didn’t learn to walk well the first time you tried. You picked yourself up when you fell, and kept trying until you mastered it. What you do in your adult life is no different. The more times you try, the more likely you are to be a roaring success.

The Secret To Success Is For Everyone To Know!

Filed under: Success Guideline — admin at 1:34 am on Wednesday, December 26, 2007

I admit, I could use more money in my life. I have struggles
like everyone who needs more of it. Just because I have
devoted myself as a servant to the Lord, doesn’t mean I’m
going to have great success as the world regards it.
Success according to God does not mean you will ever be
wealthy in worldly riches. I realize that successful people
who are “in” the world may berolling in more money than
they know what to do with. But face it, are they fulfilled, are
they satisfied from within? Are these people really ever
satisfied? Can money really buy your happiness? This is
something that everyone would love to have the chance of
proving. I have to admit that I am one of those who has at
many times thought if I were more successful, I would have
less problems. But, the more I know the Lord that I serve, I
recognize this as a lie from the world. We are not or ever will
be successful in this world or the next if we regard
ourselves as being that special and above others who don’t
have what we have. It’s a humbling experience to realize that
only God is in control. Anyone who is successful in this life
on their own are in for a rude awakening one day when God
tells them the true meaning of success, by His terms.

Like any human, I’m no exception to needing money in
which to live. Bills are a fact, and paying them or not will
result in whether or not you will be watching t.v., talking on
the phone, taking a hot shower, etc. The world is not very
forgiving when it comes to not paying your bills. They say,
“sorry for your luck.” So, making sure your utility bills are
paid are a must if you want to live and be comfortable. Any
extras are just added worries when you don’t have the
income to match the outgoing of bills. Oh, how we deceive
ourselves and tell ourselves that no matter what things cost,
we deserve them. We will find a way to pay for our new car,
our new home, all those clothes hanging in the closet or
that precious piece of jewelry that we just had to have. We
seem to have the mentality that no matter what the cost, we
deserve it. You know what I’m saying!

Once you learn to trust in God and become well acquainted
with His Words for success, you then start to see these
“wants” as foolish and realize that success is so much
more. First of all, all believers come to the realization that it’s
not about us at all. Those who are in the world will argue
that fact. These people are ‘legends in their own minds’.
And there they will remain, thinking they are something they
aren’t. God has a greater plan for His children, not those
who are unyielding to hear it and accept it. Don’t mistake
me, it’s true that God loves everyone because He is no
respecter of persons. But, when it comes down to brass
nails, only those who are chosen by Him are His children
through their acceptance of His Son, Christ. And, since God
is all about love, He gives His secrets for success to
everyone. It’s what we do with them that actually makes us a
real success in the long run.

He gave Joshua these secrets and it’s right there in black
and white for everyone. So, it’s really not a secret if you only
pick up the Book and read God’s will for all of us. Even the
most hard hearted person might come to submission when
God convicts them. Perhaps this is why some people just
don’t read God’s “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth”.
They just might see their sins and repent!

“Only you be strong and very courageous, that you may do
according to all the law which Moses My servant
commanded you. Turn not from it to the right or to the left,
that you may prosper wherever you go.” Josh. 1:7 (Amplified)

It takes a strong person to be able to submit to God’s laws.
It’s only the disobedient who can’t comply. This doesn’t
mean you can compromise. It’s God’s way…or no way.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but
you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe
and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall
deal wisely and have good success.” Josh. 1:8 (Amplified)

God’s Law is to be taken seriously, it’s not to be forgotten.
He says that when you meditate on it day and night, in other
words, make it a way of life, you will do everything that He
tells you to do in order to be successful. His Word will give
you wisdom in dealing with life as we know it. Joshua’s
success was that he was in God’s will because it was his
own will to do everything God wanted him to do. This is and
shall always be the same for everyone, that this is the
unfailing prerequisite for eternal success! It’s really all a
matter of how far ahead we want to see. If we remain
satisfied with what the world offers, we know that will all
come to an abrupt end one day. But if we can look beyond
to what God promises us, our success will be far greater
than anything this world has to offer.

With this thought, I have many struggles in this life
financially and it seems sometimes that I am getting no
where. I don’t see myself advancing to higher ground in
order to escape it. But one thing I have learned is to always
seek God first in everything. I don’t dare persue anything
unless He’s going to be with me. Why? Because if I do go
ahead on my own, it may work out for a time, but will be
guaranteed to fail eventually. Then the consequences will
be with me for the rest of this life. I know, I’ve already been
there.Believe me when I say, I don’t want to repeat
this great offense to the Lord. The lessons are long and
hard.

Lately, my husband and I thought that perhaps we could get
into an undertaking to make enough money to live and be
able to support the kingdom of God at the same time.
Before “we” decided, we took it to the Lord in prayer. We
asked that it would be in His will for us, if not, we wanted
nothing more to do with it. We waited on Him to answer. We
were prepared for a “No” because He knows best. At first
everything seemed to be falling into place, but all of a
sudden things went topsy turvey. How does a person
perceive this? I will admit, I didn’t know whether it was God
saying “No” or if it was my adversary the devil who was
throwing in the wrench. How do we really know for sure?

When I get into these situations, I present my problems to
God and expect an answer. The trick to success is being
able to get quiet, and be patient for His answer. I tell Him I
am willing to accept the things I cannot change, I pray for the
courage to change the things I can, and that He will give me
the wisdom to know the difference. This is true success! Are
you ready to let God lead your life? If not, please be
prepared for false leading into destruction.

As our business plan seemed to unravel in front of our eyes
as quickly as it was put there, I prayed for God’s will in my
life and to show me the path that He wanted for me. In other
words, I was ready to accept His answer as opposed to
what my flesh wanted.

Each time I prayed, God led me to a scripture which didn’t
tell me what to do, but rather to listen for His leading. Each
time He confirmed what I had prayed for; His leading no
matter what and no matter what the cost.

“… the Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek
Him, craving Him as your soul’s first necessity, He will be
found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.”
2 Chron. 15:2

This verse didn’t give me a pinpoint answer but it did
confirm the fact that as long as I sought Him first, He would
always be with me and therefore I would not make a deadly
mistake. He would definitely let me know. I was open for
His
intervention. Then as quickly as this seemingly good deal
had come to us, it quickly took another turn that just didn’t
feel like God. It was an uneasiness. The JOY of the Lord is
my strength. There was no joy. Whenever you feel like you
are forced into doing something it most likely is not of God.
God is patient and if it’s meant to be, He will see that it is
done, according to His will. That’s the difference between
God’s faithfulness and Satan’s lies. Satan feeds on the
pleasures of the flesh. He makes you feel like everything is
urgent. God is urgent when it comes time to pray. This is
an important fact to remember.

So, as everything unraveled as quickly as it came, I prayed
in His will. Again He answered me not with concrete
answers but assurance and in faith that I could trust Him. I
felt so lost, so forgotten and asking what my real purpose
was. Satan likes us to question our existence. Does He
want me to spend my life just getting by? Of course not.
This are questions we all ask God as His children. Does He
promise us a life of leisure just because? Again, of course
not. That’s where our faith comes into play. We just have to
TRUST and accept. Feeling like a nobody spiraling out of
control, I asked Him to answer me, if He even was hearing
me. This questionable relationship was not God’s fault, it
was on my own end. Has Satan ever lied to you like this?
Get in God’s will and be free!

“In You, O Lord, do I put my trust and seek refuge, let me
never be put to shame or be disappointed, deliver me in
Your righteousness! Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me
speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save
me. Yes, You are my Rock and my Fortress; therefore for
Your names’ sake lead me and guide me.” Ps. 31:1-3

David’s prayer was identical to mine! He felt insignificant
before the Lord that he served also. Even though we are
willing to do His will and be obedient, we still cry out and
ask God if He is really listening? We long to be in His
protection. If we aren’t , please don’t send us anywhere if
He’s not going to be with us. Even David wondered and he
was a man after God’s own heart! Don’t ever under estimate
the power of Satan’s lies, just don’t give into them.

Then His answer came in the very last verse. Not that it was
an answer in particular, it was just His way of telling me it
was going to be just fine as long as I trust in Him. This is
the walk of faith.

“Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait
for and hope for and expect the Lord!” Ps. 31:24

So, it doesn’t matter what I may want, He is telling me to just
be strong and take courage. It’s very important that we all
must be patient and wait on His faithful answers. This is
what God is all about. He guarantees that if we are willing to
put all our trust and faith in Him, He will be faithful in
bringing us to our true success. We will never want for
anything when this life is over. God knows that He has to
gently remind us that He is faithful because Satan can
invade our minds with doubt so quickly.

I don’t know where you are today, but I know that I would
rather live my life believing there was a God and finding out
that there wasn’t one when I died as opposed to living my
life believing there was no God only to find out that there
was one when I died. What a sad and grave mistake that
would be. Just remember, human pride is a killer. Pride is
what destroyed Satan.

Success can be all you try making it out to be, or it can be all
God makes it out to be. Are you willing to take that chance?
